Software

The HeartSmart™ software, containing the unique empirical physiogical algorithms, provides continuous cardiac dynamic monitoring of all the haemodynamic variables.

  • Continuous monitoring alerts attending physicians and nursing staff immediately a clinical situation starts to develop.
  • Alternatively, the intensirvist can see the effects of therapeutic treatment instantly, a dynamic response to:

    • Fluid challenge or administration
    • Adjustments of mechanical ventilators
    • Medical and/or surgical procedures
    • Change of drug regimes

The Art of Making Haemodynamic Monitoring Simple
The Collages & Societies of Anaesthesia worldwide have continuously expressed a desire for a safer dynamic method of performing bedside haemodynamic monitoring.

Today Medics Research Limited can finally introduce you to the NEW & REVOLUTIONARY alternative you've been waiting for ………

  • An innovative new British invention for monitoring the hearts performance simply.
  • The future of bedside haemodynamic monitoring any patient where and when it is necessary.
  • The only system in the world that will uniquely monitor Children and Adults haemodynamic functions at the bedside or during transportation between wards and hospitals.

HeartSmart™ is developed on well established laws of cardiovascular physiology, using physiogical parameters of heart rate, central venous pressure, blood pressure and core body temperature.
HeartSmart™ is an entirely NEW software program for estimating cardiac functions developed during the past thirty years for performing heamodynamic studies.

HeartSmart™ revolutionary software system containing physiogical formulae performs continuous cardiac dynamic monitoring CCDM in real time at the patient's bedside.

HeartSmart™ can be downloaded onto any network, laptop or personal computer in the operating theatres OR, intensive care units ICU, accident and emergency A&E and wards.

There is no need for anaesthetist, surgeons and nurses to change their working practices nor are there any new equipment costs. HeartSmart™ can be used where the central venous pressure is being monitored with blood pressure, heart rate and core body temperature. When these four coordinates are computed the HeartSmart™ system will INSTANTLY provide ALL the index values, cardiac index, pulmonary and systemic vascular resistance indexes with mean pulmonary artery and mean pulmonary artery occlusion (wedge) pressures, and all of the haemodynamic variables continuously. At a touch of a button all of the absolute haemodynamic values can be observed.

Continuous monitoring alerts attending physicians and nursing staff immediately a clinical situation starts to develop. Alternatively, the anaesthetist or intensivist can see the effects of therapeutic treatment instantly, a dynamic response to:

  • Fluid challenge or administration
  • Adjustments of mechanical ventilators
  • Medical and/or surgical procedures
  • Change of drug regimes

HeartSmart™ helps the emergency services to make best use of the critical time period, the 'Golden Hour', when dealing with coronary patients or casualties in shock as a result of a major traumatic incident.

Treatment can be commenced at the scene immediately improving the patients chances of survival and prognosis.

Paramedics or medical teams can gain accurate haemodynamic data at the scene to assess the affects and needs for intravenous infusion and drug regime(s).

Portability combined with simplicity is absolutely essential in dealing with any emergency where there is a question of inadequate blood flow rates.

Optimisations of Blood Flow
HeartSmart™ trending capabilities allow the anaesthetist or medical staff to optimise the haemodynamic status to maximum effect.

HeartSmart™ is not just reserved for the critically ill patient, it can be used in any situation where a patient would have a CVP catheter in situ in medical or surgical cases.

One such category of patients are thoses who are scheduled to undergo general surgery. The anaesthetist can catheterise the patient prior to induction, armed with the haemodynamic information from HeartSmart™, anaesthetist can calculate oxygen supply and demand prior to the commencement of surgery. The anaesthetist can confidently assess the overall cardiac function(s) prior to induction. This valuable aid will reduce the incidence of post-operative complications as well as assisting in the assessment and prognosis of the patient.

The learning curve of this procedure is usually half a day, and can be taught to paramedics, nurses and medical practitioners, who will then be able to perform the procedure confidently within hours.

Benefits to

  • The Patient
Less invasive, less risks of complications and less stressful with shorter periods of hospitalisation.
  • Medical & Nursing Staff
Easy to perform, displaying continuous real time information. A preferable system when compared to existing technologies that may only give limited information.
  • Hospital Fund Holding Managers
Reduced costs by savings in labour and time of medical and nursing staff, reducing the time a patient spends in hospital. One hospital is reported saving £11 million pounds by way of optimising blood flow during surgery through haemodynamic monitoring. The cost savings made by using HeartSmart could be it costs nothing to use HeartSmart.

Ease of use
HeartSmart™ does not require the administration of bolus injections of saline, or other substrates such as Lithium Chloride etc. There are NO fiddly gain controls with difficult repetitive probe alignments or complicated set up procedures to contend with. Simply follow the HeartSmart™ user friendly on screen instructions input the host monitors values of central venous pressure, blood pressure, heart rate and core body temperature, immediately the screen will give you all the haemodynamic variables that is the 'standard' information given by the Thermodilution method using a pulmonary catheter.

Heart rate, blood pressure and temperature are non invasive parameters that can be input, especially important if the patient is on a medical ward where only a central venous pressure line is in situ.

HeartSmart™ shows you trends you choose which haemodynamic parameters to observe, colourful reports with note making functionality that can be printed off and placed in the patient's notes. For example, you may wish to record what drugs were administered with time and date, the induction procedure and size of endotracheal tube etc.
